Opioid Use Disorder: Harm Reduction and Pharmacotherapy

Overview

"Opioid Use Disorder: Harm Reduction and Pharmacotherapy" focuses on diagnostic criteria for opioid use disorder (OUD), treatment options for OUD, and harm reduction strategies.

Target Audience

Nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social workers, and licensed mental health counselors.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and licensed mental health counselors will be able to:

  • Define diagnostic criteria for opioid use disorder (OUD).
  • Explain what harm reduction is and give examples of harm reduction in OUD.
  • Describe medications for treatment of OUD.
  • Discuss the use of harm reduction strategies and medications for opioid use disorder in clinical scenarios.

Upon completion of this educational activity, pharmacy technicians will be able to:

  • Explain what harm reduction is and give examples of harm reduction in OUD.
  • Describe medications for treatment of OUD.

Evaluation

All participants will have the opportunity to review the educational sessions and speakers and to identify future educational needs.

Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center

Dr. Stephanie Preite is a PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident at Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center and is a graduate of MCPHS University. She plans on continuing her post-graduate training as a PGY2 Ambulatory Care resident at the Providence VA.


Nichole Stark, PharmD

PGY-1 Clinical Pharmacy Resident

Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center

Dr. Nichole Stark is a PGY-1 Pharmacy Resident at Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center where she will be continuing her training as a PGY-2 psychiatric pharmacy resident in July. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 2019.

Requirements for Credit

Attendance and completion of online program evaluations are required to earn credit. No partial credit is available for this program. Evaluations must be completed at www.uripharmacycpd.org within 60 days.
